KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 25, 2020 - The Defence Ministry has agreed to speed up the payment of several initiatives for Armed Forces veterans to cope with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Defence Minister, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob said the payment of the funds and matching grants as well as incentives for veterans' associations under the Malaysian armed forces will involve an allocation from the Warriors Fund 2019 worth RM5.3mil.

He said the financial assistance would be distributed to 74 armed forces veteran associations nationwide in incentives and matching grants by end of the month.

The Defence Ministry, he said, also agreed to speed up the second phase of allowance payments for Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) holders, which is a one-off payment of RM500.

"The total allocation is RM35mil that will be paid to 70,000 qualified recipients.
"Some 30,000 recipients have already received the payment on March 12, worth RM15mil," he explained

He said the ministry had also agreed to expedite monthly payment of the RM300 cost of living allowance for the veterans and family members beginning April 1 to 4,800 qualified recipients including disabled groups (OKU), lower income groups, senior citizens and orphans below the age of 18.

“We hope that these aids can help ease the burden of our veterans and their families,” he said.

Also present at the press conference were, Deputy Defence Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Ikmal Hisham bin Abdul Aziz, Secretary General of Ministry of Defence, Datuk Muez bin Abd Aziz, Chief of Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF and JHEV Head Director, Major General Dato' Dzulkarnain Bin Ahmad
