Miri, April 9, 2020 - Assets of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) including helicopters are being deployed to the interior of Sarawak to deliver food and basic supplies during the second phase of the COVID-19 Movement Control Order (CPP).

Army Field Command East, Lieutenant-General Datuk Zamrose Mohd Zain said there were four areas involved in the assignment namely Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and Sarikei.

“The task of delivering the food supply was carried out by ATM in collaboration with the Sarawak National Security Council and the Sarawak State Government beginning April 5, when it was launched by Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg.

“For the Bintulu and Miri areas, we expect delivery to be completed today, while in Sibu dan Sarikei area tomorrow.

He said the Royal Malaysian Air Force's EC-725 aircraft, was flown to difficult areas such as Miri, Bario, Long Loyang and Long Akah.

“In addition, we also use two helicopters from Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd to deliver food supplies in Lubok Antu, Sri Aman".

“A total of 18 flights are needed to deliver food to 13 locations, namely, Bario, Long Sait, Patik, Ba Lai, Long Lellang, Long Loyang, Long Sobeng, Long Aton, Long Akah, Long Apu, Long Anap, Apau Nyaring and Long Palai”.

He said aid supplies provided included basic items such as rice, oil and sugar to the people in the area.
