KUALA LUMPUR, July 16, 2020 - The government has decided to cancel the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2021(LIMA’21).

The decision was made following a Cabinet meeting on July 8. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on Malaysia and the rest of the world, and is still not completely handled.

The Defence Ministry and Transport Ministry, as the main organisers of the event, are also aware of the impact of the pandemic on health, as well as the social and economic aspects.

The decision was made based on the several justifications such as the economic impact of the pandemic, which would have a big effect on the number of participant exhibitors and investors.

It is also closely-related to the steps taken by other countries to close borders and ban overseas travel to reduce the risk of spreading th

e disease, which would make it difficult for the ministry to achieve target participation.

The ministry also said that the cost of hosting the event was expected to increase, taking into account the need to fulfil standard operating procedures.
