SINGAPORE, 31 May 2024 – Minister of Defence, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin led the Malaysian delegation in the 12th Five Power Defence Arrangements (FDPA) Defence Ministers’ Meeting (FDMM) at the Conrad Singapore Orchard Hotel.
The Minister's participation in the 12th FDMM is crucial in ensuring that the multilateral defence relations and cooperation between Malaysia and the other FPDA countries remain robust and can be further enhanced. This aligns with the Strategic Partnership Pillar in the Defence White Paper, which emphasizes global defence cooperation to ensure national security, stability, and peace.
The FDMM, the highest level of the FPDA, is hosted alternately between Malaysia and Singapore. This year's meeting was chaired by Singapore's Minister of Defence, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, and attended by Australia's Minister of Defence, Richard Marles, New Zealand's Minister of Defence, Judith Collins, and the Head of Delegation from the United Kingdom, Paul Wyatt. The meeting discussed the latest developments in FPDA activities, including the Joint LIMA Exercise in October 2023 and Bersama Shield in April 2024. The ministers also deliberated on ways to enhance the professional value of FPDA exercises.
Following the meeting, the defence ministers of the FPDA member countries paid a courtesy call to the newly appointed Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, at Istana Singapura before the FDMM officially concluded.
